The market from outside
Direct participation as a portfolio holder, futures trader and options trader. Risk learned first-hand.
Lesson: the pain of drawdown and of using the wrong tool. Became: Regime Sequencing for independent participants.
Founded by Purvang Gandhi: three decades, three market seats, two papers on SSRN.
Origio means original. This is original research, mechanical thinking and systematic wealth creation from a practitioner who has traded, served institutions and built systems, and who tested his work with his own money.
Anyone can show a rising equity curve. The real question is what happens at the bottom of it. A drawdown is not a statistic when the capital is your own. It is the moment a good rule starts to feel wrong and the urge to switch it off arrives.
Purvang Gandhi tested his work with his own money, so he knows that pain. It is why Origio studies drawdown, execution and money management as seriously as it studies entries.
Most market products start with a wish to sell something. Our work starts with a behaviour: fear at an extreme, a trend that keeps going, a deviation that snaps back. We define it, measure it, and only then ask whether it can become a system.
A system is the outcome of research. It is never the starting assumption.
Purvang Gandhi has looked at markets from every side that matters: as the person taking the risk, as the person serving the biggest risk-takers, and as the person who studies the machinery. Few practitioners hold all three views. Each seat taught a different lesson, and each lesson became a framework for the kind of participant he had been, served or built for.

Lesson: the pain of drawdown and of using the wrong tool. Became: Regime Sequencing for independent participants.
From retail clients and franchises to HNIs, corporates and mutual funds, ending as Head of the Institutional Desk serving hedge funds and mutual funds.
Lesson: institutions need a structure to select and to stay market neutral. Became: Top-Down and Alpha-Beta for the buy-side.
Market internals, research frameworks, mechanical systems and expert advisors listed on the MQL5 Market.
Lesson: a system must be defined, tested live and deployable. Became: mechanical trading systems for the sell-side.
Credentials: MBA in Finance and CA Final (Group 2), supported by MCFM and B.Com.
Origio's conceptual classification, not an industry statistic.
A framework built for a portfolio manager is the wrong tool for a mechanical trader, and a trader's system may not suit a long-term investor. So we do not force one method on everyone. We build the right framework for the participant, the objective and the behaviour under study.
Trading his own capital showed how the individual suffers: the wrong tool for the regime, then the drawdown. Regime Sequencing reads the regime first, then picks the indicators for indices, ETFs and stocks.
Serving hedge funds and mutual funds showed what institutions need: a disciplined way to select, and a way to stay market neutral. Global to script on a 12-point matrix, with alpha traded while beta is managed.
A decade inside market internals produced rule-based systems: intraday and swing, probability, money management, extreme deviation, excursion and theta research. See one on MQL5.
Not tips. Not predictions. Hypotheses, tests, live trials and an honest record of what failed. Origio runs like a laboratory, with a desk for every kind of market participant, and a person behind each desk who has worked it.
Every framework below is a hypothesis with a method, a test and a known weakness. Behind each one are years of research, live trading and the cost of being wrong. This is the real work product of Origio.
Start with the broad market and narrow to a single security. At each of four levels we ask three questions: what is the fundamental trigger, which technical setup represents it, and which quantitative signal reproduces it?
Four levels times three questions gives a 12-point matrix. Its output is a selection decision. How that selection is traded is a separate process.
No directional market view. The question is whether relative opportunity can be traded while market direction is controlled.
β = Cov(r_s, r_m) / Var(r_m)
Sell-side research did not start with a finished strategy. It started with one rule and added a layer at a time.
How far does a position move for you, and against you, during its life? Measuring both gives evidence for entries, exits and risk limits.
MFE = max(Pₜ − P₀) MAE = min(Pₜ − P₀)A rules-based approach to options, built on the probability and position research above. The aim is recurring monthly income as an objective to investigate, not a promise: options can lose heavily.
A signal that works in a trend can fail in a sideways market. Regime Sequencing splits the problem in two: what is the market doing? and which method suits that? Watch the chart. The regime is read first. Only then do signals appear.
In a trending-long regime, dips below the average are studied as opportunities. In a trending-short regime, the logic reverses.
We think like scientists: observe, hypothesise, test, measure, refine. Backtests show how a behaviour looked. Live trading shows slippage, cost and pressure. Losses are data. Every system is a work in progress, and some take years: one index system took roughly ten.
Identify behaviour
You cannot make the cake and eat it too.
Purvang learned that building a system, trading it and funding it are three different jobs with three different temperaments. Origio separates them so each can be done well.
Studies behaviour, tests hypotheses, improves the system.
Executes the rules and handles the realities of live markets.
Allocates capital and can live with drawdowns and uncertainty.
Not a claim about money. A claim about what has been built, tested and learned over three decades, and paid for with his own capital.
Most research comes from one seat. An analyst who never traded. A trader who never studied the data. A salesperson who never built a system. Purvang has sat in all three: he took the risk, served the institutions that take the biggest risks, and then spent ten years building and testing the machinery.
That is why Origio can speak to a fund manager, a trading desk and an independent investor in the language each of them uses.
Independent work published on SSRN, the open repository used by academics and institutions worldwide. The methods are documented, not just claimed.
Supported by MCFM and B.Com. But the real credential is the work: papers, systems and a live product.
Every framework went from idea to backtest to live trial to paper. Failures were kept as data, not hidden.
The time, the money and the live-trading losses behind these systems were spent before you arrived. Building a trustworthy system takes years of backtests, live trials, slippage and rewrites. You inherit the result, not the bill: tested rules and a documented record of what worked, what failed and why.
Researching a system from scratch (one index system took roughly ten years)
Starting from a tested Origio system
Top-Down matrix research, Alpha-Beta analysis, and training for the traders who implement it.
Mechanical systems for TradingView and MetaTrader, licensing, intraday and swing methods, money management, options research.
A structured way to read index, ETF and stock behaviour, with training in applying it.
Hypotheses worth testing, approaches that failed, backtest findings, live-test results, execution problems and refinements.
Partnerships are flexible: development, deployment, licensing, training, or an agreed share of the value the research creates.
The long-term ambition is a loop in which capital funds research, research produces systems, systems create resources, and resources bring in more researchers and more capital. Origio is open to partnerships: development, deployment, licensing, training, or an agreed share of the value the research creates.
A long-term ambition, not a promise of returns.
Origio is looking for people who value evidence: institutions that need selection research, traders who want tested systems, investors who want structure, and partners who can fund or deploy the work. Let's build the next system together.

Markets are complex. Research should be systematic.
From behaviour to research. From research to systems. From systems to an ecosystem.
